Network Fundamentals

In a Nutshell - CIW Course Section 1, Part C

This is quite a complex section, especially if you have no prior networking experience. I had a fair bit of experience and still found some of the concepts difficult even though I have covered them before on other courses. IP addressing is something of a challenging chapter, and I would suggest studying the diagram as much as the text, as seeing the binary representation of the addresses helped clear things up in my mind.

Chapter Headings

As I have done with the other sections, the navigation links, to the left, are somewhat abbreviated so I have included the full chapter titles here:

Because a lot of this section is theoretical, it may not, easily, make sense. But, later in the course, many of these subjects are covered in more detail. If you have the facilities to do so, I would recommend trying to put them into practice at the detail stage.

Like much of the CIW training, I question the relevance of some of this material. A lot of it, I can't imagine ever being used by a Web Site Designer. This is not a criticism of this particular course, more of CIW in general. The course just follows the CIW syllabus.
